Sue Orlaske is from southwestern Michigan and has lived in Oregon since 1977. She has a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Biology. She has worked in art - drawing, pen & ink, photography, and watercolors - since her youth, and has taken many classes and workshops in clay and painting. Currently, Orlaske's 2-dimensional work features landscapes in oil, pastels, and batik watercolors. She also produces archival prints and notecards of her paintings. Most of Orlaske’s current clay work focuses on hand-built vessels which are salt-fumed in a low-fired sagger. Her themes often include abstract and representational natural elements in landscapes. She is a member of the Oregon Potters Association and participates in its annual spring Ceramics Showcase in Portland. She participates in regional art shows and fairs where she has received many awards. She is also a member of Batik Convergence, four Eastern Oregon artists who explore the mixed media technique of Batik Watercolors. Other members are Jan Clark , Linda Peterson and Denise Elizabeth Stone. Orlaske will be featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting's Oregon Art Beat during its 2009-10 season.
